Klaipėda Technology Training Centre – previously (from 2016-03-31) Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School.

Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School was established in Klaipeda, the sea-port city of Lithuania, in 1969. The school is situated in the very heart of the city, a few steps from the downtown and Curanian Lagoon.

Initially the school was established as a vocational school specialized exceptionally in training of dressmakers. Graduates from high school used to be enrolled into the school and after having up to two years training they used to get good skills of dressmaking that allowed them working in dressmaking factories or choosing a career of tailor.

However, due to changes in labor market, about ten years ago the school started providing new training programmes ranging from interior decorators, hairdressers, florists, computer design operators, cashiers-accountants, small business organizers to dressmaking business service providers. The school constantly adjusts training to the conditions of labour market and is ready to prepare for training of new vocational programmes. At the moment up to 700 students study and more than 60 teachers work, excluding retraining courses, annually at the school.

It is notable that presently school provides vocational training in two levels – for students with basic education and those having high school’s certificate. Besides vocational training, graduates from basic school are provided with high school education and can receive high school’s certificates while learning at school. Moreover, Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School was awarded with the name of Gymnasium that proves high quality and standards of high education provided at the school.
Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School assures equal conditions for all people, thus, students having hearing disability can receive vocational training in interior decoration area.

The school runs programmes in continuing education. Adult retraining courses in dressmaking, hairdressing and floristic are constantly provided in the school and its subdivision in Skuodas. Moreover, the school provides vocational training programme of fashion designer and pattern maker. Graduates from dressmaking and related training programmes can enroll to this training programme and learn secrets of producing various clothes including making of their sketches, construction of them using PC programmes and sewing.

Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School has actively participated in EU and school project activity since 2000, including Leonardo da Vinci and Comenius programmes. Due to participation in them, teachers and students of the school receive experience from foreign partner schools; the school acts as receiving institution as well. The school is a member of Associated Schools under UNESCO.

In 2009, the school was awarded with funding of EU structural funds for implementation of the project “Practical Training Center of Textile Production of Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School”, No. VP3-2.2-ŠMM-03-V-02-001, that will enable construction of modern facilities and purchase of modern textile equipment. Moreover, in 2009, Klaipeda Dressmaking and Service Business School also started implementing the project “Cooperation for Improvement of Study Programmes”, Nr. LLII-085, leaded by Jelgava Secondary School of Crafts, in the framework of Latvia-Lithuania Cross-border Cooperation Programme.
